Ability to re-archive episodes when moving from free to paid tier

I often find I start a new podcast by listening to a bunch of episodes in their free tier. Then if I like them enough I’ll subscribe to the paid tier.

The problem is, if I have listened to lots of episode by that point, archiving after each listen, when I look at the paid list I see all episodes and currently there is no way to auto-archive those that I already listened to in the free tier. It would be really helpful if there was a way that Pocket Casts could do that.  I can appreciate it could be tricky when the underlying episode links are different between the free vs paid, but perhaps just a simple episode number or title match would be good enough.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. It would be good to link free and paid podcasts. If you don’t mind could you please share which podcast so we can start by investigating how this would be possible.

The latest example is Swindled by A Concerned Citizen. Search for that in the app and you find the free tier and can subscribe to it. Then per their instructions I used Patreon to subscribe to their paid tier, whereupon you get given a link to the ‘private RSS link’ which I pasted into Pocket Casts.

I now am now subscribed to both and must manually archive all the episodes in the paid tier that I have listed to in the free tier. Not so hard in this case as I listened to most episodes in order so could use PCs ability to sort by date, then ‘Select all above’ etc. But it gets harder in other podcasts where I’ve picked a whole bunch of episodes at random.

  • As the private RSS feeds are listed in Pocket Casts as seperate shows, there is no link to the free listing to get your listening history. It’ll be complicated as well to create a link as the episodes are listed with unique source URLs and also episode IDs on our end. Therefore, manual work would be needed to mark those shows that you have already listened to.

I thought that would be the case re URLs & Ids, however I still think a simple match on episode title would be good enough and seems relatively simple.

  • @a3541324a For now, what you can do is to use multi-select to archive episodes in bulk:
