access individual podcasts not in pocketcasts

I have podcasts that I subscribed to, and some number were listed for me to listen to. But sometimes there’s an older podcast episode I don’t have and want to listen to (say when i subscribed I got episode 2 and 3 of a series and didn’t get episode 1, so I want to go get it). Can I do that in pocketcasts?

@stevet2015 Pocketcasts only lists whichever episodes that the author has published in their podcast RSS feed.
If the episode is not listed in the RSS feed, Pocket Casts is not able to play it.
Could you provide us with an example of missing episode from a show to check if there is any issues with Pocket Casts?

The case in point is this. I have 355 episodes of Planet Money in Pocketcasts, with 218 Archived.
My oldest UNPLAYED episode is April 12, 2022 and it’s titled “We Buy a Superhero 6: The Comic Book”.
My oldest PLAYED (and archived) episode is Feburary 14, 2022, titled “Waste Land (Bonus).”.
But I know there were episodes titled “We Buy A Super Hero 5”, 4,3,2,1. And I don’t see them on my feed. I have nothing for Planet Money before Feb 14, 2022. I have viewed older episodes, but they no longer show up in my account, not archived or new.

It looks like the older episodes you’re missing — including the earlier parts of the “We Buy a Superhero” series — are part of the Planet Money+ subscription. I tried accessing an older episode (“Emission Impossible” from May 7, 2021) in Apple Podcasts and was prompted to subscribe in order to play it. Here’s a screenshot showing that prompt:
Since Pocket Casts can only list and play episodes that are publicly available in a podcast’s RSS feed, any bonus or subscription-only content won’t appear in the app.
The best way to access those older episodes would be directly from NPR’s website:
