Ads despite being a paid customer
-
Hello,
I paid for Pocket Casts twice – once in 2014 on Android, and again for iOS in 2018 – I still have my Google Play and App Store email receipts. As someone who paid for this app, reported bugs, and recommended it countless times I’m extremely disappointed to be being served ads as a paid customer. Please reconsider trying to extract even more money out of the customers who launched your product

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your concern. I understand it can feel frustrating to see banner ads after having purchased Pocket Casts as a one-time purchase before 2019.
In September 2019, the app transitioned to being completely free for all users, and the features you enjoyed then remain available today without charge. To keep Pocket Casts sustainable and continue developing new improvements, we’ve introduced a subscription model, along with banner ads in the free version of the app.
We’ve designed these ads to be as non-disruptive as possible, and subscribing to Pocket Casts Plus is an option for those who’d prefer an ad-free experience.
We really appreciate your long-time support and feedback. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.

Sorry @staff-dexter, but the statement “In September 2019, the app transitioned to being completely free for all users” is just incorrect: The app became free for new users, but that doesn’t change the fact that the app was paid for by @gmcmillan3, myself and others. The only way to make it completely free for all users is to refund those of us who already paid.
I understand it can feel frustrating to have to look after your early supporters and honour the agreements you made with them. -
Completely agree – what was sold to me in 2015 was lifetime access to the Pocket Casts app, its only feature I wanted was to be ad-free. Now, my lifetime has apparently ended.

We have removed the banner ads, and they will not be displayed to app purchasers in the future. Thank you for your continued support of Pocket Casts.
