AirPlay / Sonos – have to press pause/play to resume after connecting
-
I have an issue that could be due to a number of factors, but where PocketCasts has to have the play button pressed after connecting to AirPlay Sonos speakers.
I am also on IOS 26.4 beta 2, which may have something to do with it, but note that the official Apple Podcasts app doesn’t have this problem.

Signal chain:
- iPhone 15 Pro Max on IOS 26.4 beta 2 (build 25E5218e, though this problem has existed for the last few versions) >
- Pocket Casts 8.5 (8.5.0.2) >
- Airplay >
- Sonos speakers (mixture of Arc and Ones, all affected similarly, all updated)
—
Steps to reproduce:
- Play any file on Pocketcasts
- Pick airplay button at bottom, select any Sonos speaker
- Audio stops indefinitely with ‘pause’ button visible
- Press the ‘pause’ button, audio resumes on Sonos speaker, button visual doesn’t change (i.e. remains visible with the pause icon)
Occasionally it shows ‘Play’ instead of pause but always it pauses the actual audio until you jiggle the button in this way.
Also, the audio is properly paused, i.e. it isn’t playing or progressing silently through the timeline until you press again.

I realise there are a few components going on here but I’ve been able to eliminate other apps from behaving in the same way.
Any help would be appreciated!
