Android Automotive Sync

@staff-bluejay I provided 4 pages of logs as image files on July 26, 2024 (not 2025) as part of support case 8522002. That was over a year ago and I didn’t hear back from support after that.

  • Hi there, @jeffcarp94! Thanks for the feedback. I did check on this but don’t have any new updates. Our team did contact you before, you should have some correspondence with the subject line “Re: Pocket Casts for AAOS filter problem”. If needed, you can reply to that same message to get in touch.

Correct, after I submitted the logs in July 2024, there were a few more email exchanges including me provided a bunch of additional screenshot on October 10, 2024. After that, there has been no response in the last 10 months.

  • @jeffcarp94 Thanks for all the details you shared back in October 2024—including the screenshots. We have noted them all. We really appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into helping us track this down. Our devs still have this on their backlog and we’re keeping it on our radar. If more cases come up or we find a solution, we’ll make sure to share an update with you.

  • I know this would be a whole new feature to develop, but if there was a “share logs with developers” option or one time button press in the settings, that would really make getting the logs easier

@therydad Thanks for the suggestion! As far as we know, Android Automotive’s interface is pretty locked down, so there’s not much we can change there. But we’ll definitely pass along your feedback about making log sharing easier.

I’m willing to keep assisting the development team, though, so I will see what I can capture later today or tomorrow.

Thanks as well for offering to keep assisting our dev team! We really appreciate any additional info you can share.

I was able to get some legible screenshots from my GMC Yukon today. I believe I captured all of the log entries from the startup events today. The end result of this was that it started playing a podcast that I had finished listening to this morning instead of the next one which I was halfway through. It then synced the incorrect podcast and timecode back to my iPhone and Apple Watch

  • HI @therydad

Thank you for sharing the logs! I have shared all of your information with our development team. If you have any other detail to share with us, do not hesitate.

If the development team wants to test anything or run through some scenarios, I’m happy to do it. I’d love for this to work. They can reach out to me directly. I’m happy to provide an email or even phone number.

I’d like to throw my voice in here. I have the same issue, using Pixel 9a and Android Automotive on my Chevy Equinox EV. Manual or automatic refresh do not save play position. Seems to be a problem “both ways” as well. I am happy to provide whatever logs you like, assuming I can get them.

For now I’m just playing from bluetooth rather than skipping around to where I was.

  • Hi there, @yochaigal1! Thanks for sharing the device info. I have reported this to the team so they can keep it in mind when testing.

Yeah like most people in this thread, the app seems to sync fine from the vehicle to my phone, but not the other direction. Which means I get back in my truck and an old podcast starts playing and messes up the correct state on my phone.

Even if you can’t repro, an option to “Delay playback until successful sync” would go a long way solving this issue. Don’t automatically start playing the last playing podcast until there’s been a successful sync call. Would work around the potential issue of not having network on startup.

I’d be happy to pay for a subscription to access more advanced sync features like this and things like faster sync intervals etc.

This app is my only hope that I’ve lost carplay.

I know this gets commented on by official Pocket Casts staff, so I am curious if they experience this, also. Does this work correctly for anyone?

  • Hi @trevorarmstrong00485c9913 and @therydad,

Thank you for sharing more information!

Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to reproduce the issue on our side, which makes debugging so difficult. We’ve tried to fix the issue based on user reports here: #2277, but there must be some other causes contributing to the ongoing issues reported in this thread. It’s possible that the issue is specific to a certain combination of the car model/type, mobile model, and infotainment system in the car.

Until we can find a reliable way to reproduce and debug these issues, the best path forward is to continue submitting as much information as possible, so we can compare the reports and find the common thread. Thank you for your understanding!
