app became unresponsive

i have around 300 subscribed podcasts. recently, the app became very slow and unresponsive. after i open it, i have to wait like 5-10 seconds to be able to scroll or update the list or whatever

I got the same problem when I recently upgraded the app. I got nearly 300 podcast subscriptions. It got normal after I deleted the app and reinstalled it again.

The app no longer opens for me at all. I get the white screen with the logo in the middle and then nothing. It just seems to crash. The widget has broken too and no longer shows anything. It’s been like this the past couple days.
I’ve tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but this did nothing.
I’m using a Pixel 7 with version 7.62.2 (last updated on 6 May) -

It sounds like you’re on the beta version. I can confirm that there is an issue with Android beta 7.62.2 crashing. The updated version — 7.63-rc-4 — should be available from the Google Play Store now.If you’re still having trouble with the app after the update, though, please let us know!

@staff-bluejay good to hear you’re already aware of the problem. I am on the beta version, yep. However, the new version you mention is not available to me yet. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, it still only gives me version 7.62.2.
Do I just need to wait?

@mattwoodrow95 If 7.63-rc-4 is not available for you yet, you have the following options:
– Try clearing the app storage for version 7.62.2 and restart the app
– You can directly install 7.63-rc-4 from GitHub (https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/releases/tag/7.63-rc-4) over your existing 7.62.2. -

Whenever I start the app it takes forever to load, I can see the podcast I want to play but the play button is unresponsive and it takes several minutes to respond and when it finally responds I can’t stop the audio because it keeps playing the old one on top of the new one I tried to play. I have already tried deleting the cache and redownloading the app.
Im on an Android 14, pocket cast version 7.74
