App unresponsive and delayed

over the past week Pocket Casts has become unusable. When I hit play on a podcast the icon doesn’t charge, but as an example an hour or so later it starts playing!!!
When I check the account section it always seems to be refreshing. Half the time it says “Setup account”, but then mysteriously changes to show I’m logged in. When unresponsive it seems to be because it is refreshing.
I’ve also noticed other things such as the list of podcasts doesn’t populate for quite some time on loading. Plus other things just being unresponsive in the app.
Phone is a Pixel 8 Pro fully updated. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. The problem persists. This was a major issue last night, I tried to play a podcast before bed. It didn’t start playing so I played something else for a bit, then went to sleep. Over an hour later it started playing by itself at full volume through the phone speaker waking me and my partner up! This is really bad design for that to happen – needless to say I’m now not very popular!
