Apple watch app suddenly quit working

    I have had the app for over 2 years (free version) and had no problems. Suddenly today I noticed that the episode I was listening to on my earbuds did not match what showed on my watch (it was an episode I listened to yesterday). I could not get it to sync no matter what I tried (restarting both watch and phone). Finally I deleted it from my watch and when I try to add it back, it won’t install. I started looking into it and it appears that now I have to do the PocketCasts Plus. Is this correct? I do not have cellular on my watch but I use it because it’s easy for rewinding or fast forwarding, switching to next episode, marking an episode as played, etc. From what I’m reading online, Plus rolled out awhile back so why would this suddenly be hitting me, and am I correct that this is what has happened? Now I just hit the “Now Playing” button on my watch when listening if I need to pause/skip/etc, but I’m just really confused. TIA!

    Good question! Our Apple Watch app will work on our free subscription if you are using the ‘Phone’ Play Source. The Phone Play Source means that all of the media will be coming from your phone itself, and you are just controlling playback via the Watch.

    Our ‘Watch’ Play Source is what requires Pocket Casts Plus, since that allows you to download/stream episodes straight from your Watch (so you do not even need your phone).

    Can you try switching your Watch to use the ‘Phone’ Play Source to see if it helps? More info on that here: https://support.pocketcasts.com/article/apple-watch-phone-play-source/
