Apple Watch background sync not working

    Hello!

I’ve been using pocket cast for years on iPhone now and the Apple Watch app for a year now.

Even if I enable background sync on iPhone and Apple Watch, I still need to have the app pocket cast open on the Apple Watch to sync. If the watch is locked, the sync stop.

Do you have any tips to solve this issue?
    Thank you

    Francois

  • Hi @hia8c0d2a1de7ae,

Just so we’re on the same page, 2ould you confirm the play source you’re using – Phone or Watch? You can tell which Play Source you’re using by looking at the upper-left corner of the watch app screen. It will either say “P” for the Phone play source or “W” for the standalone Watch play source.

Hello! Good question. It’s the Watch source.

  • Thanks for confirming that, @hia8c0d2a1de7ae! Logs would be very helpful in investigating this. Unfortunately, there is currently an issue with sending logs from the Watch app, and the expected fix for that will only be available with version 7.96. In any case, I’ve reported your issue to our developers, and we’ll let you know if we need more information from you.

Are there any updates on this? I use my Apple Watch when out walking and don’t take my phone with me. I’ve found that the playing position in an episode seems to not sync and when I then want to pick up listening from my phone in the car it’s back at the beginning. Further, this position then does sync back to the watch so I may have listened to half the episode (from my watch) but I’m right back at the beginning.

I also found that when using the Workouts app on the iPhone, when I reach a split time (like the 1 mile mark), the watch will pause the podcast and announce the split time in my ear. Then when it starts playing the episode again, it’s back where I started from on the phone.

When an episode is playing on the watch I don’t even see the remaining time in the episode ticking down, it’s just staying fixed at the position it received from the sync on the phone.

On the Apple Watch, I’m always listening from the Watch source.

  • @hia8c0d2a1de7ae and @justintl The fix for the Apple Watch logs was delayed to 7.97. Once you’ve updated to that version, please send us logs immediately after you experience the issue according to this guide, so we can be sure that the events related to the issue are recorded in the logs.

When you send us a message with the Watch logs, please include a link to this forum thread and mention the episode(s) you experienced the issue with, as well as timestamps for us to check.
