Audio drops on bluetooth
-
I love Pocketcasts and was a premium user for years but dropped it because of this issue. I returned to check it out to find I’m having the same problem.
I find the app significantly less reliable on bluetooth than any other audio app I have. The audio drops out regularly (3-5 gap every few minutes) and sometimes also spontaneously pauses. Happens with similarly on different devices but is worse on some than others.
Is this a known problem? Anything to do about it?
thanks

I am happy to assist with this. We haven’t been receiving other reports of such issues.
Are you able to share with us the following:
- Does this happen with all podcasts, or specific ones?
- The device model, operating system version and Pocket Casts version
- Does it happen if you listen to the downloaded version of the episode, or only when streaming?
Once we have that, we can assist further :)

I’m having the same issue with pocketcasts after upgrading to Android 14 on my Pixel 7. I’m a longtime user for many years on many devices and never had this issue.
The audio cuts out for a second or two sporadically every minute or two and makes it kinda hard to listen to things. I’ve tried a few things to isolate the issue: Battery optimization for pocketcasts is off, I’ve reinstalled the app, and also tired playing with the silence skipping with no effect.
The issue seems far worse on Bluetooth connections to my car + jabra earbuds than when playing locally on my phone.
Thanks!

I just have a couple of questions so we can troubleshoot further.
- Does this happen with all podcasts, or specific ones?
- Does it happen if you listen to the downloaded version of the episode, or only when streaming?

My issue was on the device and not through pocketcasts. I was able to fix it via disabling Bluetooth AD2P hardware acceleration on my android device. Thanks.

I’ve been having this same issue for quite a while now. It made me switch to Spotify. Now I went back to check if this issue was fixed. But I am still having this same problem. It has been over a year

Hi @hervemaas,
Thanks for letting us know you’re experiencing this audio cut-out issue. To help us investigate further, could you please tell us the following:
- Does this happen with all podcasts you listen to, or only specific ones?
- Does the issue occur if you listen to downloaded episodes, or just when you’re streaming?
-
I’ve had it with 4 podcasts since redownloading the app. So far I have only streamed.
At the moment I am testdriving the AD2P solution. Hopefully that is a solution. But honestly that’s not a solution for most people as you need to enable dev-tools in Android.

Sure, mostly the Galaxy Buds 3 (non-Pro). With the AD2P fix applied it seems fixed. But I am going to disable the fix soon to see if I can find anything else

@hervemaas I’m glad to hear that workaround seems to be working for now. Please let us know how it goes once that’s disabled!
