Auto deletion / download limits (without archiving)

    Greetings,

Pocket Casts is taking too much storage on my device. I set auto‑download to 2 episodes, but that only limits downloads — it doesn’t remove old files, so storage keeps growing. The description in the settings is misleading to what it does.

The usual suggested workaround is auto‑archive, but tying downloads so closely to archiving doesn’t make sense. I shouldn’t have to use aggressive archiving just because my device has limited storage, and archiving syncs unwanted library changes to other devices or the web player. Since downloads can be removed without archiving manually, this should be also possible through automation.

    Feature suggestions:

    • Keep only the latest N episodes per podcast downloaded (e.g., keep latest 2)
    • Keep only episodes in Up Next downloaded
    • Keep X GB of podcast storage, with options to:
      • stop downloading new episodes when the limit is hit, or
      • automatically delete oldest downloads first to make space

Please make this device‑local by default and allow per‑podcast overrides and exceptions for saved/starred episodes. Thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing your detailed feedback! I’ve added your suggestion for more flexible download management, including options to automatically remove old episodes, to our list of feature requests for the team to review.
