Auto Download Only on Unmetered Wifi
-
Limiting Auto Downloads to happen only when I’m on wi-fi has been a feature that’s worked for me consistently for years, until recently.
Now I find that as soon as I queue an episode of a podcast to play “Up Next” then the episode will start downloading, even when I’m only on cellular data. I’ve double-checked to be sure that the setting “Only on Unmetered Wi-fi” is turned on, i.e., the toggle is blue.
Is this a data corruption issue, and if so would deleting the app and reinstalling it help? Thank you!

@khoiv To help us test, can you please share the following information with us?
- The OS version on your device – you can usually find this from your phone’s Settings
- Your Pocket Casts app version – you can see this from the Pocket Casts app’s Profile > Settings (gear icon) > About
In the meantime, please also make sure that Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Storage & Data Use > “Warn before using data” is enabled. This will give you an extra precaution against mobile data downloads.

Thanks @staff-cara. Here’s some info…
- Using iOS 18.6.2 on an iPhone 16
- Pocket Casts 8.0.1 (8.0.1.0)
- I checked and “Warn Before Using Data” was already checked but I have not been getting warnings when adding episodes to the Up Next queue while on cellular data

@khoiv We have since released version 8.1 of Pocket Casts, but if you’re still experiencing this issue after the update, we may need app logs to investigate further.
You can send app logs along to us by navigating to Profile > Help & Feedback > Contact Support > Get Support.
You may receive an automatic response with suggestions from our documentation, but if those don’t help, feel free to reply and you’ll reach our support team directly.

I’ve noticed the same behavior recently episodes start downloading on cellular even with “Only on Unmetered Wi-Fi” enabled. Reinstalling the app may help, but it also seems like a recent app bug that needs an update or fix from the developers.
