Automatic Archiving Based on Episode Length and Keywords
-
Would it be possible to add a feature that automatically archives episodes based on their length or content? For example, it could archive episodes that are under a certain number of minutes, like 5 minutes, or over a certain duration, such as 3 hours. Additionally, it could archive episodes containing specific keywords, such as “COVID” or “Donald Trump,” which I prefer to avoid. I’m not sure how challenging this would be to implement, but I thought it might be a useful feature.

+1. This is a great idea. I would use the keyword archiving for episodes that are republished (e.g., “encore” or “rerun”), teasers for payed bonus episodes (e.g., “Premium sneak-peak”), and special series that I’m not interested in (“[series name]”). Each keyword should also have a customizable setting to search just the title, just the show notes, or both. Additionally, I think it would be best implemented as a global setting (e.g., “encore”) that can be customized for individual podcasts (both adding and removing keyword and length restrictions per-podcast) (e.g., “[series name]”).

@chalkandcarrots Thanks for this suggestion, and I wanted to note that a feature request for this was already opened on your behalf.
@kapods22 I’ve also added your vote to the request.
For context, we consider features to add based on the number of requests we receive for them. So, the more users request a feature, the higher the chances it gets built. Thanks for your feedback and suggestions!

Thanks for adding your votes, @ozymandiasdeus and @eeoferreira! I’ve made sure to record that for you both.

+1 from me aswell.
this would tremendously help when podcasts publish multiple podcasts to the same stream, but not all are interested. -
What if the episode notes said “You were expecting a rerun since it’s Christmas Day, but we’re giving you a brand new episode”?
Maybe you subscribe to many hundreds of active podcasts, but archiving takes up 1 or 2 minutes of my day. I just swipe to the left if I see “Rerun,” “Patreon sneak peek,” etc. in the title. No need to tap, read the notes and then hit archive.

I agree, it doesn’t take long to do manually, but my use case is quite simple.
I have ADHD. Being able to remove clutter in my life automatically actually makes a difference.in the end, many small streams becomes a big river.

@bugsmeany I addressed the issue you brought up in my contribution to the request.
Each keyword should also have a customizable setting to search just the title, just the show notes, or both.
The reason I personally find this feature promising is because I set most podcasts to automatically add to the top of my Up-Next. In this case, the episode would just start playing, and I wouldn’t be looking at the title or have quick access to my device to archive the episode. I would have to either use my voice assistant to skip the episode and then archive it later, or stop what I’m doing to pull up Pocket Casts and archive it.
