Autoplay disaster!!
-
So it seems like a new feature was dropped and it was automatically turned on? Or perhaps, I reinstalled and forgot to turn it off. But this is rather hilarious AND frustrating at the same time.
So I was listening to this one podcast for this one show, and decided to subscribe. However, the hosts were completely insufferable and loud and annoying, so I listened to the one show and archived it. I had nothing in my next-up list, and it kept playing the next episode. BUT I had unsubscribed, WTF was happening?! At the same time these hosts were getting more and more annoying and louder and increaing my stress and frustration level. I exited the app, and it kept playing in the background. I kept archiving over and over again, and the next show of a podcast I am NO LONGER subscribed to kept playing. At this point I was definintely being punked by the podcast. I had two options clear the data cache from the app info menu, or just reboot. I rebooted my phone.
Finally, peace and quiet. What really confused me was I UNSUBSCRIBED why was it still playing episodes from an unsubscribed show over and over again. Now that it was quiet, i could concentrate, and think logically, it must be some sort of autoplay, but I thought that was just for when you were listening to a podcast directly to go to the next one, regardless of the up-next. I found the Autoplay switch and in the description it said “when there’s nothing in next-up, only” or something similar.
So I guess the feedback to the PocketCasts folks have a way to automatically abort all autoplay if the user is no longer subscribed to the podcast. Seems counter-intuitive.
As far as that podcast is concerned, don’t matter if they have real aliens, the ghost of Davinci, or even God himself being interviewed, I will pass. LOL

Autoplay will automatically play the next episode from the list you were listening to — a playlist or a specific podcast’s list of episodes, for example. It sounds like that’s what you experienced here.
Autoplay will still work for podcasts you aren’t following because there can be instances where someone wants to try out a few episodes before following the show.
You can disable Autoplay in Profile > Settings > General and it is enabled by default.
Or perhaps, I reinstalled and forgot to turn it off.
Since the feature is enabled by default, my guess is that this is the case. :)
