Autoplay on even when toggled off

That. The toggle in settings is off. Nevertheless, autoplay is still on.

Android, and yes my phone and apps autoupdate so whatever latest builds are.

I have come here to report the exact same thing. It is absolutely infuriating.

I enabled the “Auto add to Up Next”, thinking it would be a good feature, to have new episodes automatically queued. And then I find, that the auto-add will add a random OLD episode, if there are no new episodes around.

And now it is STILL adding adding old episodes, even after I have disabled autoplay for all podcasts.

    It’s completely unacceptable.

Please fix the issues with this feature:

    1. When it’s disabled, it should be actually DISABLED.
    2. When there are no new episodes, and the Up Next list becomes empty, do NOT just go and add a random old episode. That is not what this feature is for. The “Auto add to Up Next” should queue new episodes only. If it queues old episodes, it is stupid. That means i’ll be listening to an autoqueued new episode, great. Then i finish that episode, and it queues an OLD episode i’ve already heard. Although on some podcasts it might take 10 minutes before you realise this is an episode you’ve already heard. So now i have an old episode in Up Next, which i cannot even remove! It won’t let you remove this last entry and go back top an empty queue! BAH! INFURIATING!
    3. If other people want random old episodes queued, so Up Next never empties, fine. Add a new option for that, ie “Queue random old episode when no new episode available.” But don’t force it on the rest of us, because the current behaviour of this feature is incredibly stupid.

Aah. I discovered there is another Autoplay setting, unrelated to the “Auto add to up Next” setting. I’ve now disabled Settings->General->Autoplay, so i think that should fix my issue.

Soz for being a grumpy ol’ bugger but hey, that’s wat i am i guess.

I’m glad you figured that out, I can see how that could be confusing. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully we can find a way to make that clearer.

The autoplay order currently depends on the order you have the episodes sorted on the list you played from. Perhaps sorting the source list differently will give you the behavior you want?

The “Auto add to Up Next” should queue new episodes only.

You’re right, autoplay should not start playing archived or played episodes. It will play older episodes though depending on the order you have sorted the episode list. Also, if there are no unplayed episodes “under” the just-played episode on the list, but there are unplayed episodes “above” the just-played episode on the list, autoplay will pick the next episode above the just-played episode.

It sounds like you’re seeing archived/already-played episodes getting picked up by autoplay though, so you may be seeing a bug. Does it do this for you consistently? What list are you playing from (podcast episodes, filter, downloads, etc.)? Are you using Android/iOS/web?
