Autoplay stopped working
-
Android Version 7.66
Samsung S21
I’ve been using autoplay for about 1 year. Recently it stopped working and just shows a list of “for you” episodes instead of playing the next episode from the current podcast. Often the next episode from the current podcast isn’t in the “for you” list so I have to navigate through many screens to go and find the podcast and episode list. The queue is empty as I don’t add episodes manually to the queue or use the auto add feature.
This happens on the app and with Android Auto, though I mostly use Android Auto. Autoplay is an important safety feature while driving on my commute with traffic
I’m not sure if it’s related, but it seemed to have started happening after I downloaded some episodes (for the first time) for listening offline on a flight. I’ve deleted the downloads and uninstalled/reinstalled the app, but autoplay still doesn’t work.

There could be a chance an optimization app or setting on your phone might be causing our app to be closed.
Please check if that is the case or ensure these options described here are off: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7015477?hl=en
Once it’s off, please recheck if the app still stops playing. -
The app isn’t closing. It gives me a list of recommended “for you” podcasts to play. Often the next podcast isn’t on the list, so I then have to navigate through the menu to find al the next podcast. This is Android Auto as described above. It’s as if the app is ignoring Autoplay.
-
Also, the phone is always plugged in while I use it in my car. I’ve tried changing the app’s battery setting to unrestricted and that didn’t help.

Can you please confirm if this also happens when you’re using the app on your phone?
This will help to rule out if this issue only happens on Android Auto, or on both devices.
Also, since it’s been a while, can you also make sure that you’re running the latest Pocket Casts Androrid
7.67version?Please let us know what you find out!

Autoplay is working on my Android phone app with version 7.67, but isn’t working with Android Auto 7.67.

@altacannonportillo Just to make sure we’re on the same page, you are referring to Autoplay as described here: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/autoplay/ and not continuous playback from the Up Next queue. Is that right?
Once we have confirmation, we’ll try and replicate the issue from our end.

I updated to 12.3.64264 and will try again tomorrow.
Yes, please let us know how it goes!
-
No luck, auto play still doesn’t with on Android Auto. I just get the “for you” list once the podcast finishes.

Thanks for confirming, @altacannonportillo. I’ll be emailing you so we can get app logs from your device to troubleshoot this issue further. Please keep an eye out for my message.

I’m on iOS and also having this issue. It’s not consistent, though, and usually affects only one or two specific podcasts. I’ve tried everything (relevant) suggested on the forums.
-
Hi, @fiscalia8! Since you’re on iOS, the cause of the issue is likely to be different from what other folks in this thread are experiencing. I’ve opened a new thread for you here: https://forums.pocketcasts.com/forums/topic/ios-autoplay-stopped-working/?view=all

On July 30, support indicated that the problem has been reproduced and a fix is coming in the next release. Unfortunately, it’s not fixed.
I updated to Android version 7.69 released August 2nd and it still doesn’t work.
-
We’re aiming to have the fix out in v7.70.
Please keep an eye out of that version :)

Actually, I have to take it back. Autoplay is not functioning properly. The team needs to do more testing (and maybe I have to disable autoplay or potentially look for a different app).
This happened over last 2 days…
podcast A
autoplay worked for multiple episodes
Switched to Podcast B
This is a long podcast so I only played about 20 minutes.
Switched back to Podcast A
autoplay did’t working. After podcast finished, it stopped playing and gave me the “for you” list.
Switched to podcast C
after completing podcast, it autoplayed from Podcast B… But not even the episode that I was previously listening too.
