Casting to Chromecast stops playing in less than a second.

    Pocket casts no longer appropriately casts to my Chromecast devices.

    Previously one could click the Chromecast symbol while playing. a podcast in PocketCast. You would select a speaker, group, or device and there would be a brief connection sound and then the podcast would play on that device.

    Now, the connection is made to the device and it attempts to play ( for less than a second) and then stops. Tapping play again on PocketCasts results in the audio playibg again for less than a second and stopping.

    The AI help suggested a few things

    • I verified that the Chromecast device and my phone (Galaxy s20 using Android 13) are on the latest software.
    • I have checked Google Play for any update for Pocket casts– there are no uninstalled updates.
    • I have restarted both my phone and the Chromecast devices (via disconnecting their power source for 10 seconds and then allowing them to reconnect to the home)
    • The AI recommended to “Check Permissions: Ensure that Pocket Casts has the necessary permissions, especially for Local Network access.” That permission does not exist in the Pocket cast application settings for Android version 13.
    • Further I’ve ensured that PocketCasts has no restricted settings. For example, AI also recommended checking the applications battery restriction. The PocketCast application has unrestricted battery access.

    I am also having the same issues. Android and Chromecast Audio pauses immediately. All other apps work fine when casting.

  • Our developers believe they may have a fix for this, however, due to the holidays, I don’t have an exact timeline for when it will be included in a release.
