Changing Downloaded podcast file location

    where are downloaded podcasts stored on Android, and how to I change change the location to the SD card?

    Hi, @carlbatchny! If your episode downloads are set to be saved on your phone, it will be in the following directory:

    Internal storageAndroiddataau.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcastsfilesPocketCastspodcasts

    To change the download location, you can select your SD card instead from Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Storage & data use > Store podcasts on.

    Desktop version does not have this setting. What is the process to change the location from the main drive to an auxillary drive?

    Hi @biblicaljurisprudence! The web/desktop app doesn’t offer the ability to select the drive you want to download episodes to.

    I checked on my phone and the folder
    InternalstorageAndroiddataau.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcastsfiles
    does not have any subfolders, even though I have added some files (which I am also able to listen to; they could also be added to the “Next” list).
    Have I missed something here? :)

    @emddom Can you share more details about what you’re trying to achieve? Are you trying to transfer the files, for example?

    When I try to change the location of stored files, I am only given Phone as an option. I have an SD Card with plenty of available storage but for some reason this does not appear as an option for me to select from, even though a few weeks ago I did see this as an option. Tried uninstalling PocketCasts + reinstalling but it did not fix the issue. I am using Version 7.76 on Android 13.

    Hi @jeremymills7,

    Would you try the following:

    • Tap the “Profile” tab.
    • Tap on the gear icon on the upper-right corner of your screen to open the “Settings” page.
    • Scroll down to “Storage & data use” and tap on the menu item.
    • Tap on “Store podcasts on” and choose your SD Card.

    If you do not see this option, I recommend checking the following common issues:

    • Remounting
    • Reformatting
    • Checking that your SD is not in ‘read-only’ mode
    • Replacing your SD card

    What is the path for the storage on SD card?
    I cannot find a folder that has the right size?

    It would be great, if I could choose the folder by my own, not only choosing between internal and external storage.

    This can differ on each device, but it can be something like /storage/6631-6232/Android/data/au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts/files

    You can double check in your logs, which can be viewed via Profile > Help & Support > Logs

    It would be great, if I could choose the folder by my own, not only choosing between internal and external storage.

    We had this as a feature in the past, but since Android 11 onward we are no longer able to support custom directories due to privacy changes placed on apps.
