Chromecast volume control on Pixels?
-
Hello, I’m on a Pixel 8 Pro, Android 14, Pocket Casts 7.55.
I’m moving from Google Podcasts and it looks like Pocket Casts is going to be a good replacement, but I tried to use the Chromecast feature today and Pocket Casts doesn’t seem to allow control of volume with the physical volume buttons. Youtube Music and Google Podcasts do allow this, you just control the casting volume with the phone screen off or on another app.
Google disabled the option for a while on an OS level on Pixels due to some litigation, but it’s been a while now that they’ve reenabled it, only that it appears that apps need to implement it. Is Pocket Casts able to do this, is it on the roadmap?

Hi, @yyq2c4fof! I see we have an open report for this. Volume control works on some Pixel devices, and it doesn’t work on others. We haven’t been able to find a fix yet, however.
To help us with our investigation, can you please check if volume control using the Chromecast pop-up on your phone still works as expected? You mentioned that volume control using the physical buttons don’t work, so we want to see if we can isolate the issue to just that.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the info.
Luckily just tried again and it’s working fine, I can now control volume while casting with the screen off or on another app. I don’t know what did it, I see Pocket Casts was updated to 7.56 since then, but there was also the Feb Android update for Pixels, though there’s nothing indicating anything about the Cast feature in the changelog. Could have also been a Play Services update.
Thanks again.
