Custom list of speeds for Playback Speed
-
The new functionality of tapping on the speed value (previously 1.0x, 1.5x, 2.0x) now goes up to 4.0x in 0.5x jumps, but I’m only ever going to use 0.8x, 1.0x, 1.5x, 2.0x, and maybe 2.2x. It would be lovely if we could customize a list of which values the playback speed cycles through, of course with the option to fine-tune it 0.1x at a time.
Love the app, thank you!

Customised list of speeds would be great, but in the interim can you include 1.0x in the sequence when tapping on the speed value (as it did previously)?
Before update: 1.0x > 1.5x > 2.0x > 1.0x …
Current version: 1.5x > 2.0x > 2.5x > 3.0x > 3.5x > 4.0x > 1.5x …

Hi @crazycurrycool,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I see we are tracking demand for this request, I will be happy to add your comment as a vote for this feature. -
Yes to all of this. Not having 1.0 in the quick settings cycle is inconvenient and unintuitive, and if we’re not going to be listening above a certain speed, it would be great to be able to limit the list to those we would use. I also like the idea of customizing the list and/or actual values!
Right now if you want to get from 2.0 to 1.0 you choose your 10-tap method: hit the speed 5 times and then (-) 5 times, or hit the (-) 10 times. 10 taps is a lot.
Or, and I just found this — you can shorten the sequence to “only” 6 taps by getting to 4.0, hitting (+) once, and then tapping the speed. Which is the only way that tapping on the speed gets you to 1.0.

Add me to the just for all of the above. This new just is speeds is terrible ux.
I never listed above 1.5, and I usually swap between 1.0 and 1.5.
Customizable would be best, but short term, 1.0 being in the list is a must.

You should be very happy that your users are so devoted and polite. I was very grateful to find your app when Google decided to retire their podcast app. I’ve loved using your app and I haven’t seen any noticeable missteps…until you introduced the change to the quick select playback speeds. Don’t you have a way to query your user data to see what speed setting your users most often use? I think it’s likely a very select few that listen at 4.0x speed! In other words, you’ve alienated a majority of your users by taking away the 1.0x preset in favor of adding a 4.0x preset! I had to downgrade to version 7.65 because I often change my listening speed back to 1.0x when I can’t understand something said at 2.0x, so not having the 1.0x option available on the preset list was a constant annoyance.
Could you let me know when you’re able to restore the playback speed presets to a selection of speeds that are most often used by your users, so that I can resume updating your app?
If you choose to offer the ability to customize the presets, users should be able to customize both the speed value of the preset AND the total number of presets. For example, I might not want to tap through a list of 6 presets when a short list of 3 presets is sufficient for me.

Hi @tigster72! We have an open pull request to revert playback speed presets.
https://github.com/Automattic/pocket-casts-android/pull/2439
Hopefully, this fix will be released in version 7.68.

@tigster72 deleted as requested. Let me know if you also want your earlier post (

I like to have have a selectable speed list and limit or so. But most importantly, please have the 1,0 in the presets. I am so used to have it and I need it. Sometime I like to re-listening to a part with 1,0 or a little bit more. And I have a muscle memory for it. I tap one ore two times an I am on low speed. Now it gets worse with 4,0 and no 1,0 at all. Firstly, I thought it was a bug or mistake. Please change it back an introduce some settings.
Thanks a lot, I love PocketCast!

I’d also like the old behavior restored (or a customizable list).
For me, the new behavior both:
- Goes way too high (anything over 2.5 or 3.0 will never be used)
- Doesn’t reset to 1.0
I keep forgetting the new behavior exists so I have to click like 5 times to get to 1.5x then another 5 times on “minus” to get to 1.0. It’s really frustrating and a bad UX.
