Delayed Feed Update for Daily News Podcasts
-
Dear Pocket Casts Team,
I am a big fan of your application, as I find it fits my needs very closely! 😊
However, since a couple of weeks I’ve noticed that the feed update for two daily news podcasts that usually release around 5 pm CET is heavily delayed – sometimes by more than 90 min. (Interestingly, the morning release of one if the podcasts at 6 am comes through usually immediately).
Other podcatchers and even Spotify release them much quicker, so I suspect it has to do with the way you grab the feed info.
Is there a chance to investigate this issue? It is the only gripe I have with PC, but for my daily utilizing schedule it’s a pretty big one since I prefer the news podcasts to be as fresh as possible. 😅
The podcasts in question are called “Was jetzt” and “Auf den Punkt” and can be found via PC’s discovery tool.
Thank you very much in advance!
P. S. I remember that last year or so this problem showed up already, but vanished after 6-7 weeks, which is why I did not feel the need to post here earlier.

Thank you very much for looking in this!

Thanks for that, @qchaos!
Following the adjustments we have made to our servers, it looks like we have been processing episodes for the above podcasts much quicker. For the most recent episodes, I see that we have been parsing new episodes anywhere from 2 to 30 minutes after they are published by the author.
Can you please let us know if you have observed the same change?

Awesome, thank you for the fast response! You are right, the episodes appear definitely faster in my feed. (https://pca.st/podcast/a3c12f70-68d2-0136-4e65-69745d675bc7 notably quicker than https://pca.st/podcast/949e5a70-79a2-0135-9036-63f4b61a9224 but that could have to do with the publishing process for the latter usually being a bit more varied).

Super happy to hear that, @qchaos! And appreciate you taking the time to report back to us too.

Upload frequency can affect parsing speed, so you have the right idea! That said, we’re always looking at ways we can improve our parsing speeds, so hopefully, in the future, the difference won’t be as noticeable for you anymore.
