Different URLs for Sharing
-
I really liked how the sharing URLs worked for non-Pocket-Casts users before the web player was made public. When sharing episodes with timestamps and clips, it was a simple, minimalist UI—not a full podcast player—where the person could just play the clip. Most importantly, when sharing full podcasts and episodes, they included a few links to listen in other apps (Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Castro, and the RSS feed). Back when I used Overcast, if I wanted to share a podcast or episode with a friend who uses Apple Podcasts, I would have to find it in Apple Podcasts and share the link from there. When I switched to Pocket Casts, I could just send them the Pocket Casts link, no hassle. Now I have to go back to search in Apple Podcasts. I would really like it if sharing links (pca.st/podcast/… and pca.st/episode/…) went to the original landing pages, which were much more friendly to people who don’t use Pocket Casts, and only went straight to the web player if the user is signed in on their browser.
Thank you.

Currently, when you share a podcast link, it takes the recipient to the podcast’s page on pocketcasts.com, whether or not they’re signed in to a Pocket Casts account.
On iOS, we’ve also introduced App Clips, which allow people who don’t have the app installed to experience the podcast player right away. When someone receives a link to a podcast episode, they can simply tap the play button and start listening — no download or sign-in required.
That said, it sounds like you’re referring to the previous landing pages that included links to listen in other apps like Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Castro, and even the RSS feed. Just to clarify, is that what you’d prefer to see brought back?

Yes, that is correct.

What I meant is that I would like it to return to the previous landing pages and only go straight to the page on pocketcasts.com if the recipient is signed in on their browser.
