Downloaded episodes are keep getting deleted
-
I’m seeing this just today after v8.1 update.
I have a queue of episodes I’m playing and heard an episode pause because it removed download so I see that many episodes I manually downloaded are being removed and I had to go download the episodes again.
Not sure what the exact trigger is, I tried episode change, fast-forward/rewind but seems so random having these episodes on queue get removed.
This is only happening with episodes I’m not subscribed to.
-
I downloaded these now about 4-5 times now seeing them as “queued” instead of with download check mark. I thought it was partially downloaded but these episodes are being downloaded from the beginning again.
-
Same problem here. Episode added to the Queue are doenlaoded. When I check back Downloads are gone. No problem with the podcasts I subscribed to.
Only episodes I add to the queue that are not subscribed to.

Alright a day later, this has gotten worse and I can’t nail down the reproducing the bug. At least this isn’t ballooning Data stored so it’s really deleting what I just downloaded. I now enabled download “Up Next” option to sorta mitigate but running into two problems with that:
- The worst one is when I was listening to this episode (again not subbed but downloaded, listening at 1.8x speed), the last 20 minutes of the show kept getting deleted while in “Now Playing” mode keep pausing the playback and either I have to pause and restart play to stream or Download Manually. Since it’s in “Now Playing”, it won’t download automatically like with “Up Next” option
- Now for some episodes with re-download attempts are failing with
"Download Failed, This episode may have been moved or deleted. Contact the podcast author". My guess is we are getting some 400/500 error from constant downloading from the same source and I don’t know if caching servers are bugging out on me. I have to manually download these multiple times, even for those in “Up Next” queue.
This is a terrible playback experience that needs to be fixed ASAP. At least rollback what we had before Monday.
I’m about to fly today and had my items lined up and these audio are gonna get deleted while I’m flying.
I reopened the app multiple times, I don’t want to start resetting the app.
-
Same here.
This is terrible. I start an episode that is downloaded. Then the episode stops and is not downloaded anymore.
Subscribed Podcasts are no problem. But episodes I don’t subscribe to and are in the queue are affected.

v8.1.1 update on my end: Looks good so far, I think we are back to normal without needing to subscribe to certain podcast series. So the original issue reported here is resolved.
Another issue I’ve seen an instance of downloading over cellular when I was looking at the Up-Next queue when I as off my Wi-fi (I always have had “Auto-download on Metered Wi-Fi only”) but I think that’s basically this issue I’m seeing. I probably need to get on & off of my wi-fi to reproduce this more often. I was looking at my queue when we had an Wi-Fi outage on Monday briefly where my iPhone fell back to 5G then I saw up-next episodes just downloading
