Downloads Over Cellular or Mobile Data Not Working

We recently had the following message sent to us by a user:
Cellular episode downloads still don’t work (never worked). They always stay stuck on queued for download. Not sure what the problem is with pocket casts downloading episodes on cellular. I can download and update apps and other media on cellular so my data is working.
First, it’s worth checking the app settings:
- Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Storage & Data Use: Is “Warn before using data” enabled? If yes, see if turning it off helps.
- Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Auto Download: Is “Only on WiFi” or “Only on unmetered WiFi” enabled? If yes, please disable it.
In this user’s case, both settings were already disabled, so we move to the next step, which is to check whether Pocket Casts has permission to access mobile data on the device. The exact location where to check will depend on the device, but will normally be in the following:
- Android: Phone’s Settings > Connections > Data usage
- iOS: Phone’s Settings > Pocket Casts > Mobile Data
