Episodes playing time automatically reduced

  Greetings – I looked through your troubleshooting list and couldn’t find this issue.

  This has happened several times the last 2 weeks.

  I subscribe to several podcasts and for a few of them I’ve noticed the following:

  The running time says 2:11 minutes. But when I start playing, the time quickly reduces to 13 minutes (this happened this morning) and only plays the first 13 minutes of the episode.  The episode is now saved as 13 minutes and I have to find the complete episode elsewhere (usually Spotify). 

  I would like to stay with Pocket Casts, but this happens to my favorite podcasts.

  Is this a function of the content providers or is it a function of Pocket Casts? Do I need to change a setting?

  Hi @cboglarsky!

  Thanks for reaching out. An issue like this can occur due to various reasons – here are some of them:

  • The RSS Feed for the podcast lists a different duration than the actual duration of the MP3 File. This causes the duration to change once the MP3 File is being played
  • The podcast is an exclusive on a different platform, and only a small snippet of it can be listened on apps like ours
  • The MP3 file is not encoded correctly

  The list can go on, so in a case like this, we recommend you share with us an example of an episode with this problem so we can check it out. You’ll just need to paste the share link for the episode here :)
