Equalize volume
-
I’m listening to a podcast of material recorded outside a studio, which has soft parts mixed with extremely loud parts, which then hurt my ears in the headphones. Is there any way to boost the soft parts and lower the loud parts so they all have an average volume, which will not exceed a maximum limit that the user can set?

Hello! Thanks for contacting Pocket Casts Support! I understand you’re looking for a way to balance the volume levels of a podcast with varying loudness.
We do not have an option for this right now, but you can look for a volume equaliser app for your device. That said, this has been added to our ideas board for consideration. If others are interested in such a feature, please add a +1 to the thread.

This issue affects me more when one podcast ends and another begins – the volume difference is sometimes very large.
While a mobile device has potential apps, having a Pocket Casts feature that handles this across the platforms solves it for all (I use Windows client, Android app, and browser player).

Just encountered a situation where audio normalization is a must-have for me.
I was listening to a podcast which suddenly played ads, which were significantly louder than the volume of the podcast episode itself.
It was quite jarring. I hope something can be done to alleviate this occurrence. Thanks.

Plus one for me as well, I am going to cancel my plus subscription because my favorite podcast is unlistenable on headphones, certain parts are painfully loud and other parts are incomprehensibly quiet, without any equalizer function pocketcasts is useless to me. I tried multiple apps before settling on Pocket Casts and I like all the other features, but for some reason podcasts actually sounds significantly worse with Pocket Casts than other apps. I’d really like to be notified if equalizer functionality is added, because I’d like to keep using pocketcasts.

I did try finding an equalizer app for iPad, all of them only work for files imported to the app, nothing is helping pocketcasts. I hate having to use a secondary app and not be able to use my device of choice.

@9c1hriva We will send out an announcement in the usual update notes for the app if we make any changes to the app like adding this feature.

If you haven’t already, I also recommend you reach out to the podcast creator here. I’m sure you’re not the only one with this issue.
