Feature request: folders in filters
-
I am a heavy user of both filters and folders.
I primarily use my filters to get unplayed episodes of specific groups of podcasts, so often times the podcasts I select for a filter mirrors exactly one of my folders.
Problem is that I have to update the filter manually to have it be the same content as the folder whenever I add something to the folder.
Therefore I would love to be able to select a folder when using filters.

Hi @fireboltpro!
Great idea! I have added this as a +1 on our ideas board :)
We will keep this thread opened so others can also add their interest for this functionality!

Yes, please, I would love this feature. I would love to filter the most recent podcasts, within a particular folder.

Hi Pocketcasts staff. is this on the todo list? It’s been requested by many people for a few years and would be a significant quality of life improvement for those that use smart playlists.
Consider this example:-
A user has subscribed to a lot of podcasts (Over the years I have subscribed to 145) and has organised them to folders, eg ‘news’, fiction, science, archive Each folder has between 2 and 45 podcasts.
I want to create three playlists – news fiction and science.
Currently I have manually create these from memory (or screenshot the folder, cross reference and add the podcasts one by one).
I have to do this painful process multiple times.
Then I have the ongoing maintenance task of keeping the playlists up to date when I amend the folders or add new podcasts.
This is the antithesis of ‘smart’!
It seems insane that folders have been added but serve no useful function apart from visual de-cluttering.
An even smarter approach would be to use tags instead of folder so a podcast can have multiple tags. Eg ‘favourite’ and ‘ science’.
Ps. Should the multiple threads requesting this be merged? -
@happygun We don’t have anything to share on this specific feature at the moment, but our development team has recently been looking into improvements to the Smart Rules feature set. I can’t confirm whether there will be a rule for podcasts in a specific folder, but hopefully our development team will have more to share on that front soon.
