Feature Request: Force playback location sync before playing

Looks like there are a few other similar requests or issues reported where listening on a second device sometimes doesn’t get the most recent playback position from the first device. I’ve found if I start the app and just wait a little bit before pressing play it’ll catch up, but when I’m in the car the app resumes playing automatically and almost never gets the current position from the other device.

Would it be possible to add a setting to attempt a playback position sync when play is initiated (via a manual button press or the car resuming on connect), but before actually starting? Obviously, this would need to time out if the network isn’t available and just start playing eventually, but I’d much prefer a few second delay if it meant that I’m never out of sync across devices.

I guess as a secondary option, it’d be nice to be able to force a sync when the playback stops as well, though I think it must update the playback position pretty regularly in the background while playing, so that may not be totally necessary.

  • Hi @mose9634

You’re correct that there are already similar requests to this.

Pocket Casts actually has a feature called “Sync Now” that allows you to manually sync your account, which could help force a sync when playback stops. You can find this feature by going to Settings > Sync & Backup > Sync Now. This feature should keep your playback positions in sync as long as all devices are connected to the internet and signed into the same Pocket Casts account.

I understand if having another option like you mentioned above would certainly be helpful. I’ll make sure to pass this on to the Pocket Casts development team for consideration in future updates.

    Thank you!
