Feature Request: Horizontal Views

Like many users I’m sure, the phone mount in my vehicle is horizontal. So you can easily imagine the additional challenge it is to navigate the Podcasts List and player controls when it is in this orientation.

For the individual player screen (Podcast image on top, player controls on the bottom) this one would be extremely easy to make a mobile view of. Basically the top half could rotate 90° (Now Playing/Notes and the image) and then the bottom half would rotate 90° (Title, timeline, controls and menu).

I know the Podcasts List would be more challenging since it looks great in the vertical view, but perhaps you could shift the player controls and navigation menu to a block on the right side (full height) and then have the search and list of podcasts on the left side.

Even if you just started with just those two views being able to go horizontal, I think it would be a great improvement to the app and user experience. Overcast and Pandora, don’t have a horizontal view, but Downcast does.

Thank you for letting us know how we can improve the app for you! I can see why a horizontal orientation, also called landscape, could be very helpful for when you’ve got the phone mounted in that direction in the car and want to use Pocket Casts.

I’ve shared your words here with the team for further consideration as we look to improve our app.
