Feature Request: Linux App
-
The new desktop app is build in electron. Will there be a linux app now?

Hi there,
At the moment, it is something that our developers are considering. That said, I’ve gone ahead and added a feature request for this on your behalf.
For context, we consider features to add based on the number of requests we receive for them. So, the more users request a Linux app, the higher the chances it gets built. -
Hi, I think this would be great! Right now I’m using the web player on Linux but I can’t download episodes for offline listening

Would definitely appreciate a Linux version! I subscribed to Pocketcasts when I was a Windows user but for the last two years I’ve only used Linux on desktop and I’m kind of wondering why I’m still subscribing! (Been using PC on Android but would so like to have it back on my laptop). My sub runs till 30 Sep; I shall decide then :)

Hi @kylesmith63,
We’ve added your votes for the Linux app request. Thank you for sharing your feedback! -
Adding in my vote here. Please consider making the app a flatpak so more distros can support it: https://flatpak.org/

Adding my vote for a Linux version; both my day-to-day use computers are Linux-based now, and having a native app would be very convenient.

Just like to add that I also would appreciate a Linux build of the desktop app. All my main computers run Linux (Fedora). Flatpak would be the ideal packaging and publishing format. Currently I just use the web app.

Nine-plus year user here (with a Plus account) who would also find a tremendous amount of value in a first-party desktop app for Linux. I’ve used a couple of the third-party Electron wrappers over the years (one from FelicianoTech, and at least one other from a developer whose name escapes me right now) but the performance was subpar and I’ve always ended up back at the web player. I’d love to free up that tab and have an easier way of managing multiple concurrent audio sources (yeah, I’m that guy that only pretends to pay attention to coworkers but is really listening to podcasts during Teams meetings; sorry, not sorry 😏) that would be possible with an official app. 1Password’s rollout of their Linux desktop app providing a truly first-class user experience for us Linux users has given me hope that other software teams will also start to prioritize us as well.
All I ask is that you not release it as a Snap package, I recently switched distros after a decade of using Kubuntu as a daily driver and would rather avoid using other Canonical products going forward. As others have noted, a Flatpak would be acceptable, but of course, the hope is for a native rpm package. Thanks for all the years of hard work on Pocket Casts; I have many fond memories of great laughs after reading some of the old changelogs. Please give my regards to the rest of your staff; you’ve always done right by me and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
