Feature Request: macOS widget and updated iOS widgets
-
The iOS widget is too bare-boned, and it would be helpful to have a macOS widget to complement the desktop app.

Hi, @drtbell5df55239a9! Thanks for writing in with your feedback. For the iOS widgets, what else would you like to see added to them? If you have examples of widgets you like from other music-playing apps, you can share that with us as well.

With regard to the iOS and prospective macOS widget, I would like to see something very similar to what Apple does with its Podcasts app. Current episode, and up next would be fine.

I recently downloaded pocket casts for macOS and installed the app and the widget. Why does the widget need to connect to iPhone? And when it does, why does the widget not play on my macOS but rather through my iPhone? I should add, the macOS app works just fine.

Hi @kolvas!
Currently, our widgets are designed to work specifically with the Pocket Casts app on your mobile device. This means they rely on a direct connection to the mobile app.
Unfortunately, macOS doesn’t have the same widget capabilities as iOS and Android, so a Pocket Casts widget for macOS isn’t available at this time.

Hi @staff-frankstaff-frank @staff-carastaff-cara I’m thinking about signing up for a paid subscription, but there are currently no widgets to start serving on macos, do you plan to add them, if so when? I think it’s very convenient for many to start playback with one touch without opening the application, as is done in BookPlayer https://apps.apple.com/ru/app/bookplayer/id1138219998

@pgalich24676a37ce we don’t have any immediate plans to add widgets to Pocket Casts on macOS, but I’ll be sure to add your comments to our existing feature request so our developers can take it into consideration when considering future development.
