Feature request: Playlists

Please add multiple playlists. I love PocketCasts UI, but I am currently using PlayerFM for this one missing feature.
I just subscribed to a podcast with a huge back catalogue, and they have put out a “best of” list of their earlier episodes. If I had a discrete playlist to assemble all their recommended episodes, I could do my best to burn through them, while at the same time having another playlist to come back to when I need a break from all that content.
I can see similar use cases for all kinds of educational or informative podcasts, where there is a set theme of content you want to get through at your own pace.

Coming here just to +1 this feature, its the main one missing on Pocket Casts. Everytime I open the newsletter I hope this will be added, but losing hope and considering other options.

as a current user on Overcast, the only thing missing on Pocket Casts is having playlists that you can organise as you wish. Filters aren’t good enough. +1 to playlists please!
is there an update on whether this will implemented or not? As this thread is several years old with 8 pages but the feature isn’t on the app.

We don’t have anything to announce at the moment, but our developers are certainly keen to implement popular feature requests and try to prioritize those that would have the biggest impact for users. Hopefully we will have more to share on that front soon.

Please bring the playlists back. I used them all the time before it they were removed. Add my name to the list of requests. It’s the one feature that PocketCasts is missing.

I’m not sure why this thread has been marked as ‘resolved’ as the issue clearly isn’t resolved.
I’m one of the many MANY people frustrated with Overcast these days. It’s become super buggy. I’ve heard good things about Pocket Casts, so I put it iPhone, and signed up for the free trial. Everything looks great — but without custom playlists, I’m not moving.
Like some others I’ve seen in this and other threads, I keep two primary playlists. One is all news and current events, the other more fun and light. I thought perhaps I could do this with Folders and Filters in Pocket Casts, but that seems impossible.
Bluntly, I (and, I’m guessing, a whole bunch of other Overcast users!) won’t be switching until you add custom playlists. I’ve cancelled my trial, and deleted the app, at least for now.
As soon as you add this feature, I’ll be back! Everything else sure looks great.

The thread is regarding a feature which does not exist in the app, we normally will mark it as resolved as it isn’t an actual bug in the app, and we are actively logging feedback for this feature to our ideas board. Hope that clarifies it.

I can confirm that we are investigating this further due to the high interest in such a feature, but we don’t have any ETAs on when this might be implemented. Your feedback is great, as it allows our product team to get more context on why such a feature is needed.

Hey pocket casts team,
I’ve been using your app for years and paying for premium. I’m unfortunately cancelling my subscription today because of the lack of a playlist feature. Spotify allows me to do this for podcasts, and I’m paying for their service, so why not use it?
It’s really disappointing to see a thread from 2023 get no action. This thread would be the tip of the iceberg too, as it requires people to be a WordPress member to post. Same for Reddit, not all of your users who want this feature would go to the effort to post online.
Rather than saying it is something you are considering, I think we would all appreciate an up front answer as to how much votes do or don’t matter.
My genuine question is what do your users need to do or say to get this feature implemented?

@nikkiwaterson I can confirm that our developers are actively investigating the possibility of adding such a feature, as it is highly requested. Your feedback is being forwarded to them, too.

What you have done here is sufficient. Pocket Casts Mobile apps are also open source, so if any person from the community wants to help with the development of this feature, they are welcome to.

Plus 1 for this much requested feature. Like commenter just before me, I too have been a user/subscriber for a long time, but at this point, being able to create custom playlists are basically essential. Please make this happen. 🙏 I don’t want to have to say goodbye to this otherwise awesome app. 😢 Thanks

If Pocket Casts would add a playlist feature, I really believe they would get many, many Overcast years that are only hanging on because of playlists. Please, please, please move forward soon.

I’ve been using Pocket Casts for several years now and the folder feature has always been great to help me select what to listen to without getting overwhelmed, HOWEVER, as with the other folks on this thread, a playlist feature would make me a lot happier with this app right now. I have a particular podcast that helps me with my insomnia but there are certain episodes that switch narrator or have sound effects that can wake me up so I usually skip those. It’s a massive pain to have to select multiple episodes to add to the queue when I go to bed so I’ve started using other podcast apps that allow me to make custom playlists since I use the starred function for podcast episodes I like to revisit or recommend to friends. It does seem like this feature request is dragging on and I wonder if there’s a more efficient way to gather interest in the feature through an email poll or something of that sort. I don’t want to drop my subscription but if this app can’t serve my needs then I may have to look elsewhere.
