Feature Request: Subtitles/Captions/Transcripts

We recently had the following message sent to us:
Hey, it would be really helpful if y’all could introduce subtitles in the new update.
If you’d also like to see subtitles, captions, transcripts, or similar in the app, you can reply to this forum thread. We’ll then add a vote for this feature in your behalf in our internal feature requests list.

This would be useful although I’m assuming it would likely have to be a Plus feature due to the added costs of using an API to transcribe the audio file.

Also while yes Android does have Live Caption, it doesn’t really work at all when you are listening on 3x speed for example, it just can’t figure out the audio that fast.

Hey, just wanted to mark down my support as well. I often find myself searching through YouTube transcripts to find points in videos after I’ve watched them, and something like that in Pocket Casts would complement the bookmark feature well. Both Android and iOS have fairly strong examples of on-device transcript generation (Google’s Voice Recorder app and I believe iOS just has an API for it) so it’s not necessarily a given that you’ll have to rely on an external service to process every episode.

Hi, I am deaf and I have been avoiding Podcasts for years because most of them don’t have transcripts or subtitles. Andriod’s naive subtitles and Spotify’s transcripts for podcasts are giving me the privilege of enjoying Podcasts.
So I hope you folks will really introduce this and encourage podcasters to use transcripts. :)

you dont even need live transcoding. Some podcasts supply an srt file in the feed. Srt support would be awesome.

Transcripts would really help me when saving highlights into my notes system for personal knowledge management.

@lihess As of version 7.72, transcripts are available if the podcasts’ creators provide a transcript in their feeds.
