Finding individually downloaded podcast episodes

You can download individual episodes of a podcast via the Discover tab on iOS without subscribing to the podcast overall. However, after doing so, I can’t find the downloaded episodes to play later, e.g. they don’t show up in the Podcasts tab. Is there a way to have them show up there, or find them again after downloading? (they show up in Profile > Downloads, but they’re unorganized and mixed in with all other podcasts).

At the moment, Profile > Downloads is the only way you can find episodes downloaded from podcasts you’re not subscribed to.
Can you let me know more about why you don’t wish to subscribe to the podcast, however? Based on that, we may be able to suggest other solutions for you.

Thanks for the reply and the information! This comes up periodically for me when someone recommends a podcast episode to me, or one is linked online. I don’t want to subscribe as it’s just the one episode that’s of interest, and subscribing will start auto-downloading episodes.
An unfortunate side-effect of the above is that once a downloaded episode is buried in the download list, it effectively becomes unfindable and undeletable (eating up storage space in a way you can’t see or free, I believe?) In that case, allowing episodes to be downloaded without subscribing almost feels like an anti-feature.

Our developers will consider adjusting the way this works in a future update :)
