First “Up Next” Podcast Does Not Auto Download

Platform: iOS 26.2.1 | Version: 8.4.0.4
If my Up Next queue is completely empty and I add a podcast to it, that podcast doesn’t auto download. I have to manually download it.
However, if there is already at least one podcast in the Up Next queue, every podcast added thereafter downloads properly.
I’ve tried toggling the Up Next setting in the Auto Download section of settings to no avail.

@paladintom I’m not able to recreate this issue on my end at all. When I start playback of an episode with Auto Download Up Next enabled, it starts playback and also starts downloading. This is the case with other episodes in Up Next and when Up Next is empty for me.
Since you’re experiencing this issue, though, could you send app logs along to us?
You can follow these steps to send app logs to us from your iOS device:
- Navigate to Profile > Help & Feedback
- Scroll down and tap on “Contact Support”
- Tap on “Get Support”
- Add a description of the issue and tap “Submit”
- After sending the message, reply to us here to let us know that they’ve been sent.
