Garbled audio

Lately the audio quality garbles speech enough to where I can’t understand some key words. This defeats the whole point.

    Example: https://www.volts.wtf/p/using-a-moneyball-approach-to-elect

Listening to the same episode with the same Bluetooth audio device via the Volts.wtf website worked well, unlike listening in the Pocket Casts app. This is a show stopper bug.

Android app version 7.64, au.com.shiftyjelly.pocketcasts, on Pixel 6 phone.

  • @1jerry2 can you please confirm with us if you are using any playback effects, like Volume Boost, Trim Silence or adjusting the Playback Speed?

Also, does it happen with all podcasts or just specific ones?

Speed is 1.0x, Trim Silence is off (years ago I found that feature reduced understandability, maybe it’s been improved since then?), and Volume Boost is off.

The problem occurs in at least 2 podcasts (Volts and Clearer Thinking). FWIW, it was happening in the guest’s audio and not in the interviewers audio, which could be coincidence or perhaps an interaction with the guest’s Zoom (or similar) audio compression + decompression then recompression.

I did not notice it in the Ten Percent Happier podcast.

    The effect sounds choppy.

    I hope that helps.

  • I’m having trouble recreating this issue from our end. I’m wondering if the podcast creator might have uploaded a fixed version of the audio file after your device downloaded the previous one. When you were experiencing this issue, was the episode downloaded or were you streaming the episode?

If the episode was downloaded, could you try removing the download from your device and then re-downloading it to see if that resolves the issue?
