Global Default Playback Settings

  I’m brain damaged.  I *KNOW* I was able to do this before, but now I can’t find it.

  How do I set the global default playback settings?  I know how to set the settings for specific individual podcasts.

  How do I set the default settings when I subscribe to a NEW podcast?

  I see https://support.pocketcasts.com/article/playback-effects/, which describes the effects and how to change the speed while *playing* an episode, but not how to set the default for newly subscribed podcasts.

  Hi! You actually found the right instructions :-)
  
  When you change the speed in the player toolbar, by default this setting will be saved for all your podcasts.

  That would explain my confusion and frustration! I thought the player toolbar only effected the episode I was currently listening to.

  I would change the settings for a specific episode I was listening to (For instance, because it was a music-heavy episode I wanted to listen at normal speed). I’d later be confused why my other podcasts were playing so slow, since I never changed their settings!

  I wouldn’t expect (nor want) to have to playback an episode to manage global settings of any kind. Rather, I’d expect global settings to be managed where all the other global settings are managed: the account settings! Heck, there is already a “Defaults” section in the general settings, THAT is where they should be!

  At the very least, the playback toolbar should be labeled “Global Playback Effects” or “Default Playback Effects” instead of just “Playback Effects”. But really, just throw the global playback effects in Settings, and only use the playback toolbar for the episode you are currently listening to.

  I agree with you 1000%. This setting is confusing…when it doesn’t have to be.

  If you do want to set specific podcast playback effects you can do that on the Podcast Page: https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/podcast-page-android/ . The settings you put there will only affect episodes in that podcast.
