Global Shortcuts for the Windows APP
-
I’m a newbie in the Pocket Casts world.
I’m usually on my computer all day, so I almost exclusively listen to podcast on my desktop while working during the day or gaming at night. Typically, I only listen to podcasts on my phone if I’m driving, so I rely on Android Auto integration for it.
For those reasons, I used to rely on Spotify. For many reasons, that doesn’t work for me anymore.
I decided to give Pocket Casts a shot since It has both a Windows and mobile apps, so I could sync my podcasts just like in Spotify. And I’ve heard it might work with my audiobooks as well, so I’m excited to try that too.
But there’s a feature that fell is missing from the Windows App.
When I’m working (and also when I’m gaming), I frequently need to pause what I’m listening and go back. And I find I can’t really rely on windows multimedia keys for it. It will frequently lose track of what I’m actually trying to control and instead of resume play on Pocket Casts, it will start playing a YouTube video lost in some Chrome tab.
Because of that, I always chose to use custom global shortcuts, so that interacting with the player wouldn’t conflict with my Blender shortcuts while I’m working.
Although Spotify didn’t natively support global shortcuts, I use Toastify to customize global shortcuts that would interact with Spotify’s API.
I understand that adding global shortcuts to the web version of Pocket Casts might be impossible due to browser shortcuts limitations.
However, It should be possible on the Windows app, right?
I don’t know if this is the right place to request a feature like this, and I apologize if it isn’t. -
So, this post is two months old now, and I’ve noticed posts requesting features (even if they won’t be added) receive at least a quick reply saying the suggestion would be forwarded to developer’s appreciation…
Since this one has zero replies, and also since the desktop app was redone since then (and now even regular multimedia shortcuts don’t work with it at all), should I take that the request for custom global shortcuts for the desktop app will simply be ignored? -
Hi! My colleague actually added your suggestion to our feature requests. Sorry if we failed to let you know.
Features are considered by our developers for every release based on the number of requests we receive for that feature.
Thanks for contacting us with a well-written and thoughtful suggestion. If you have any further questions or recommendations, feel free to ask!
