iOS App Update (7.61.0.5) Made Me So Mad I Created a WordPress Account

Woke up this morning to see that Pocket Casts had updated on my phone and that I was logged out of my account, which I noticed when I was immediately prompted to purchase Plus after opening the app.

When I logged back in, the app automatically(!) overwrote my local session/config with whatever version was stored remotely without prompting(?!?!) or warning me that this would happen.

That erased over two weeks of listening history and effectively wiped out my Up Next playlist.

To correct this, I will have to look through approximately ~1 month of published episodes in about 50 podcast feeds, try to remember which ones I’ve already played, mark as played+delete+archive all the old episodes that were downloaded when my Up Next playlist got reverted, build the playlist again, and re-download the newer episodes I haven’t listened to yet.

I’m straining to withhold my commentary on this series of events for the sake of keeping this productive, but this seems like behavior that should be fixed before the next update.

I just logged in to the web player, and it now looks like my Up Next playlist is some kind of merged version containing what was previously in my iOS app before the logout and what I saw after logging back in. I killed and restarted the app on my phone, and after a few moments to sync, it now matches what’s in the web player.

Less than ideal since I’ll have to reorder things a bit, but much much much better than what I was seeing at first.

I’m so glad things are looking a bit better and not so dire anymore! We are looking at syncing and working to improve how things are handled when a new login happens. Let us know if we can assist with anything further.
