Issues syncing suddenly
-
Hello, I’ve been using PocketCasts for years and been using two iPhones to sync back and forth between my personal and work phone. This has been working fine forever but recently it’s had some bad glitches that makes it where I’m looking for possibly alternatives if this can’t get fixed. Not sure if it’s just me but not sure why it would suddenly be happening. Both are signed into the same pocketcasts account i’ve had for years.
What I experience sometimes is that one of my iPhones will go back to the beginning or shoot to the end of an episode. Sometimes it just plays it from some random spot and I don’t realize it until I’m like “hey this sounds familiar”. Then I have to scrub to where I think I last left off. Jumping to the end of the episode is the worst as it jumps to the end and then moves onto the next episode so I don’t even know what episode I was supposed to be listening to.
Is anyone experiencing these issues? I’m wanting to subscribe again so I can have the web access but obviously don’t want to pay and add a 3rd sync device into the mix into this mess.
I’m testing another podcast player and so far it’s been able to sync playback positions basically almost instantly between my 2 iphones and the web. But i’d rather use pocketcasts.
Thoughts? Thank you.

Hi there, @4f3eed7b
I understand you’re experiencing issues with syncing playback positions between your two iPhones.
To determine if this is a syncing issue, please try going to ‘Profile’ and clicking ‘Refresh Now’ when you are done on one device. Then on the second device, you can do the same to see if the correct timestamp syncs over.
If that does not help, it could be that this is actually due to dynamic ads being inserted in the podcast (more likely the case). Since the ads keep changing, the duration of the podcast changes, so when Pocket Casts resumes, it may actually rewind/fast-forward since the timestamp has shifted. We’re investigating ways to address this, but downloading episodes from the affected podcasts will prevent such an issue.
