Keeping selected episodes permanently
-
I often Archive a particular episode I want to keep, and it then appears in the Library. Recently I played one of those episodes in the Library (from May 2024) and once completed, discovered it was grayed out and essentially gone (sigh). Unless I did/touched something in error, it appears playing something in the Library means it is no longer saved for re-listening again. I may be using Archive incorrectly, since I read that archiving deletes the download file. So how can I permanently preserve an episode for listening not just once, but over and over as desired?

Hi, @rwd12331! Archiving does delete an episode’s downloaded file. In your case, is your ultimate goal for the downloaded file to not be deleted?
If so, we’ll want to avoid archiving episodes after you play them. If you’re on the mobile apps, please go to Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Auto Archive and make sure “Archive played episodes” is set to “Never.”
Alternatively, you can make sure “Include starred episodes” is toggled off. Then, you can star all episodes you’d like to relisten to. This way, even if “Archive played episodes” is set to “After playing/24 hours/2 days/1 week”, the starred episode will not get archived after playing.
Can you see if that works for you?

Thank you for the helpful information. I was assuming that “archiving” put an episode in the “library” for permanent retrieval. Instead, Pocket Casts has a different (unusual) definition for that. But I have now followed your instructions so that played episodes never get “archived” to ensure the downloaded file doesn’t get deleted (unless I specifically do so). So then it appears the “Library” represents anything that’s been chosen to actually download & save. Thanks!
