Local private podcast URL?
-
I’m hosting a private podcast feed on my home network only for family members when located at home. Pocket Casts isn’t loading the podcast URL when I put the URL into the discover search bar.
Since my podcast is hosted on a server internal to my home network, I know adding the podcast or playing the podcast will only work when attached to my home network.
I only expect PocketCast to add the feed URL directly from the URL. I don’t expect the feed to be searchable by “discover” or accessible outside my home network. My router is not setup to allow any access from external sources, so if PocketCast uses an external server to query podcast URLs before they are added in the app, this is being blocked. From the docs, I could not tell if this was happening or required though.
The URL I’m trying to add to Pocket Casts is:
http://192.168.1.100:8000/feed/wizard_of_oz
Is there any reason this scenario would fail? Should it work to add that feed when connected to my local network? I can load the RSS feed in Chrome from my phone, but the PocketCast app can’t find the feed.
I’m currently running Android 11 on a Pixel 2. The local podcast is created and hosted by AudioBookshelf running on a Synology NAS. I’ve tried turning off the Android/Google Fi automatic VPN, but get the same results with it on or off. My PocketCast app version is 7.35.
Any ideas on how to figure out what’s going on are appreciated!

Hey there, @gregorybrown352391638a 😀
At this point in time, our app will only be able to add podcasts which have a publicly accessible RSS Feed. A feed present on a local network will not be possible to add.
We recommend that you consider making this RSS Feed accessible to the public and make it password protected so that only you can access it. To then add a private RSS Feed to Pocket Casts, you can follow the steps shown here: https://support.pocketcasts.com/article/password-protected-podcasts/
I hope that this helps 👍
