Migrating from Google, trying to filter older episodes to mark played
-
With Google Podcasts shutting down there are going to be a lot of people looking for a new app. After importing my OPML file, There are a lot of podcasts with hundreds of episodes that I am still working through. I was hoping to be able to filter by date and select everything older than a specific date to mark as played but I can’t seem to get it to work.
I used to use Podcast Addict. In there you can just long press an episode and then select mark everything older as played. I’ll probably have to go back to that app because I have hundreds, if not thousands of episodes to get mark played.
Does anyone have any ideas around this?

You can long press on an episode and mark older episodes as played. The process may be just slightly different from Google Podcasts. Here’s how you do it in Pocket Casts:
- Open the podcast feed like you’d like to affect
- Sort the episodes chronologically (
...-> Sort Episodes -> Newest/Oldest). Make sure you aren’t also Grouping by some property or you might get them out of order. - Scroll down to the episode you’d like to mark it and all earlier episodes as played
- Long-Hold on the episode to bring up the “bulk actions” action bar
- Long-Hold on the episode a second time to bring up a new selector: “Select all above” and “Select all below” and tap on the one you need.
- One all of your early episodes are selected, you can perform the bulk action you’d like by tapping on the button you want: Mark as Played is what you want. It may be one of the two icons available on the pop-up, or you might need to tap the ellipsis (
...) to bring up more options.- Note that you can customize which two shortcuts appear in the bulk action bar by clicking “Edit” after the ellipsis and reordering the items. The top two appear as icons in the action bar.
Hope this helps!

If this can be of any help, here’s open-source Chrome extension that scrapes your listening history and episodes in queue and exports it into JSON or XLSX.

@dlgraham Unfortunately, it’s not possible to import listening history into Pocket Casts. The workaround shared by @joshhoey is a good one though.
@kasinecmaros Thanks for sharing the extension. However, Pocket Casts does not support the exported JSON or XLSX file for import.
