More patreon feed problems
-
Same as everyone else who posts this topic. I resubscribed to a patreon feed and pocketcasts is the only app that seems to see this as a problem.
I am genuinely curious how many of these threads need to be posted on the forums before Pocketcasts actually fixes the problem of re-subscribing to patreon feeds. This isn’t an issue with any other podcast app I’ve tried but I have seen threads going back at least 4 years with this issue. This is clearly a known problem but the support replies all say “we’ll look into that for you” even though there’s clearly a fix on the back end.
How is this acceptable?
-
I’ve just checked both the Patreon feed you have subscribed to and did not see any issues with it. The latest episodes are showing correctly.
What is the name of the show you are having issues with and what is the latest episode you are seeing?
-
That is wonderful, I also don’t have any issues getting episodes from either of them… on the Apple Podcasts app.
Meanwhile on Pocket Casts, an app that I paid money for, the latest one I subscribed to won’t show anything because I was once subscribed to it and then cancelled for a period of time before re-joining.
The latest episode I see is #272 from May 24, 2024
This is the exact same issue as all of these threads:

I could go on but that would be a waste of time. This is a known issue that actually needs to get fixed on the back end. There are so many instances of this going on that I am shocked this hasn’t been fixed yet.

Hi @secretlysuccessful99b6e16852,
We’ll reach out to you directly via email to discuss this in more detail and gather the necessary information about your private feed.

I was about to make a post but saw this thread. I have the exact same issue. Patreon private link that I stopped subscribing to for a bit, resubscribed and now can’t get new episodes. The feed link works in any other podcast app just not PocketCasts. Don’t want to switch to another app but it’s super annoying to listen to everything in PocketCasts except for the 1 podcast that won’t update for no discernible reason.

Since the pocketcast support staff is too lazy to actually tell people what the problem is, here is their official response for anyone else with this issue and how to resolve it.
[Response start]
We have a support page that goes over this issue and includes steps to resolve it:
https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/private-or-members-only-feeds/#htoc-w
But in short, if our backend feed system checks a podcast feed and receives an error when doing so, it will temporarily deprioritize updating the feed. This is to handle cases where a podcast is temporarily unavailable.
If we receive enough errors in a row when checking a feed, we will treat it as if it is permanently unavailable. This is what most often happens with private/paid/members-only feeds where the subscription associated with it is temporary paused or expires before resubscribing.
Generally, if you refollow the feed in Pocket Casts, the feed will eventually update in our system. However, in some cases it will be necessary to manually request an update of the feed from within the app using the steps in our guide linked above or by reaching out to our support team directly.
Our development team is looking to improve this experience a bit more. By making the manual refresh within the app a bit more visible and possibly enabling it for all feeds, not just feeds that we detect an error for. Hopefully we’ll have more news to share on this soon.
[Response end]
Not posting this publicly is seriously uncool, why should anyone support your app if this is how you’re going to deal with known issues.

I’d like to note that the “Feed Issue Detected – Tap to Fix” button was *not* seen in the podcast’s gear section following reactivation this time like it was in the past, and therefore required a new email support ticket, which led to the fix happening 48hrs after reactivation…
I trust that the new button, after the upcoming app update, will be guaranteed to be present following a reactivation issue and that it will actually resolve the feed update-delay then and there, rather than simply notify Support to eventually update the feed on their end.
