Moving podcast to top of queue…

I’m a Google Podcast refugee. Trying to make friends with Pocket Casts. One puzzling question: if I didn’t finish yesterday’s podcast, but would like to start today’s brand new podcast, I can add it to the queue, but it doesn’t seem possible to drag it to the top of the queue; only to “next”. Only option is apparently to destroy the queue and start over. Surely I’m missing something here?

There are a few ways to manage the order of things in your queue:

    • From the queue itself, you can grab the three horizon bars on the far right side of each episode and drag them up or down to arrange your queue manually.
    • From the queue itself, you can also swipe right on an episode. This reveals two blue buttons (“Play Next” to send to the top of queue and “Play Last” to send the episode to the bottom of queue). A long drag will pick the first one (“Play Next”).
    • From a podcast feed itself, you can also swipe right on an episode to reveal the “Play Next” and “Play Last” options. You can configure the order of these, and which one gets the up next long swipe behavior under Settings > General > Up Next Swipe

“Play next” moves the new podcast to the #2 position, which is exactly the problem. The old pod that was playing yesterday will not budge from the #1 position without deleting it. And the three ‘horizon bars’ won’t move #1, and won’t allow #2 (aka: “play next”) into the top spot. Again: am I missing something here?

Google Podcast handled this perfectly. Could drag anything anywhere.

Oh, when you say #1 position, do you mean the podcast that’s currently being played?

You get any other episode playing immediately by pressing the circled ▶Play button on the far right side of any podcast feed. That will get that episode playing immediately, and bump the previous “Playing” episode (your #1) to the top of the up next queue (your #2).

Alternately you can get an episode playing by tapping on it to bring up an info page for that episode, and tapping the giant ▶Play circle in the middle of that page.

Also also, you can get another episode playing from the up next queue by either press-and-holding on it, or tapping it (this behaviour is configured in Settings > General > Play Up Next On Tap).

Thanks. Not to kvetch too much, but why not do it the intuitive way: allow any pod to be dragged to any position?

I’m not one of the devs, so I can only speak as a user: I’ve never thought of the currently-playing podcast as a part of the queue.

The queue is “up next”, and I think of the currently playing episode as distinct from that. I think I’d be a bit confused if I could drag an episode above the currently playing one and have it take over.

I suppose the UI could be improved slightly to keep a faded version of an episode from being dragged higher than the top of the “up next” queue. I’d never tried to do that until just now, and I guess it looks like you could drag it higher. I just never would have tried to do that.

While I disagree with your definition of what a “queue” is, the important fact remains that this inability to drag a new pod up to position 1 is nonintuitive, clumsy, and unlike how other podcast players work.

    Hellooooo devs! Please change this.
