New app icon
-
Is there an option to keep the old pocketcasts app icon instead of the new rainbow icon? I turned to pocketcasts in search of an alternative to big tech censorship and woke propaganda. Up until this point, I have really enjoyed pocketcasts and have even recommended it to friends and family as a substitute for Google podcasts when they decided to censor one of our favorite podcasts.
While you may have changed your app icon in the name of “inclusion,” your decision to do so alienates those of us who oppose much of what the “pride” movement stands for. You are welcome to have your own opinion and support the causes you want to support. However, by changing your icon to the “pride” flag colors, you are making consumption of Pocketcasts’ political opinions a prerequisite to use of your product. For users like myself, this is unacceptable. Now, if I want to use your app, I need to display the pride flag on my phone screen. I refuse to do this. Unless you make a change that is more inclusive of those of us who disagree with the “pride” movement’s values, you have lost me as a consumer. I would also venture to guess that you’ll be losing many others, too.
Pocketcasts has been a great platform for me up to this point, so I hope that you will consider rectifying this issue.

I agree 100% with ccslatts. Rectify this now or join the others who do not respect any other opinion except their own. I did not see a Christian icon from you on any of those holidays.
-
This is very disrespectful to your users – the Woke religion being forced down our throat.
If this is not changed back to the normal logo very soon, I will discontinue my use of Pocketcasts, and use a different podcast portal.
I respect all sexual preferences, but the Pride logo is not about respect or tolorance – it is a ideology that is intolerant, illiberal, and political driven.

In the announcement regarding the app icon change for the month of June there are instructions on how to change back to the default icon.
a direct link for you https://forums.pocketcasts.com/forums/topic/2023-app-icon-update-for-pride-month/#post-488
For what it’s worth, I completely disagree with your sentiment and broadly support Pocket casts decision to support members of the LGBT community.
-
A Christian here who hopes you never change it back as long as the objection presented by opponents is the dog-whistle “woke” references instead of presenting rational, reasonable objections.
-
I don’t get why is so insulting a simple icon. At the end of the day you can change it in the options anyway
-
I won’t be changing the app icon, I will be permanently discontinuing use of this app after seeing this change. I’m sure there are tens of thousands of others who will be doing the same this morning. The pride flag represents promotion of sexual degeneracy that is harmful to society, and I will absolutely not support businesses who want to force this disgusting behavior on myself or my family. You will lose a massive amount of business over this, so think a little harder next time about what matters more to your company – virtue signaling or profit. The huge majority of Americans do not want this kind of immoral pro-gay and pro-trans propaganda constantly shoved down our throats, and everyone is getting very tired of it.
-
I agree completely with OP. Make it an option for people to opt in (so I don’t even have to have the link in my app drawer). I want NOTHING, NOTHING on my phone that even remotely suggests I approve of anything the woke movement stands for.
-
I have used the app over eight years and the default icon has never changed until now. It is the universal change of default that is a problem. The “fix” of changing icon via settings only creates duplicate icons and the default persists. The guidance to just make the change to another icon on Android is not accurate as the default remains unchanged.
Where is the pink icon for breast cancer awareness? Purple for alzheimers? Orange for hunger? Green for environment? Yellow for equality?
Make changes to your website, social media, etc. to whatever. The universal push change to default without option to actually change it is frustrating.
-
As stated by others, the problem with the instructions on how to change it back to the default icon is that, for Android users, it does not delete the pride logo icon. All the offered solution does is create a second Pocketcasts icon on your phone. I want to be able to remove the pride icon on my phone. I have no problem with them offering the option for other people to change their logo to the pride icon if that is what they’d prefer to do. However, don’t force me to have that icon on my phone.
-
I was going to replace that disgusting pride logo with the default one, but that does not convey to you the contempt that I have for any company that thinks it’s acceptable to assault me with something that is in direct opposition to my moral values. Instead, I will be finding another podcast player.

@rons4start same here. I am currently checking out Playapod. There has been no concern to resolve this issue. Goodbye Pocketcasts.
-
Lifetime membership, I hate Pocketcasts for politicizing my app. I just want to listen to podcasts, not be indoctrinated with your work crap BS.
-
Ok guys, you should get something meaningful to do instead of caring about this little stupid thing. Remember, pocketcast it’s not a political party nor a ONG or whatever. Pocketcast is a private company and as a private company must 2 two things: maximize profits and reduce costs. If making a rainbow icon maximize profits they’ll do it. It doesn’t means that is showing to you LGBTQ podcast. Let’s be practical here. Pocketcast it’s the best podcast app around. Don’t make a change that leads you to come back latter, because you’ll come back(I’ve been there) and when you start using Pocketcast again will be frustrated because of some stupid rainbow little thing that is intrascendetal.
-
If making a rainbow and politicizing podcasts is how they think they can make money, then they are wrong. There are many great alternatives to Pocketcasts, so goodbye forever jackasses.

I cancelled my subscription. I’ve been a customer for years. This is the best app out there, but there are alternatives I can live with. I’m just tired of having all this forced down my throat everywhere I look. I’m not anti-anything. Live and let live. Don’t force anything onto me. The only thing I can do is choose how I spend my money. You lost a customer for life. I hate seeing businesses make bad decisions. This one is easy, just stay out of it.

This is the response I received:
Hi Steve,
I can see this upsets you and that opinion has been noted. There is no reason however for this disrespectful reaction.
Please feel free to change the icon back following the instructions above otherwise it will return to normal on July 1st.
For now, we’ll close this request and if there’s anything else we can help with related to the function of the Pocket Casts app function or account, do let us know.
Thank you!Rebecca
