new feature request: export list of stared episodes

I would like to be able to export the list of episodes that I have starred. It would also be nice to create “playlists, or folders, or groups” that I could name and sort episodes into. I want this to be at the episode level, definitely more detailed than just by podcast. Some day, now that they are a feature, maybe export list of bookmarks.

    Thanks

  • Great idea, @acivilm!

I’ve added this as a feature request. If more users would like this, please feel free to add a +1 to the thread.

The more interest we get, the higher chance it will get to be built :)

I’d love this feature too! I find the way Pocketcasts deals with Favourite podcasts a bit difficult to search way back years…

Thanks for the context @frombrosis I’ve added your words to our dicussion on the feature

    “it has been added”

do you mean, the feature has been added, or a +1 has been added?

More generally, I am looking for any way to make additions/updates to my listening queue get communicated to another tool, e.g. as might happen via an RSS feed, or API, or some web resource being checkable by a tool like IFTTT.com.

A key thing I would like to achieve is a workflow whereby an addition to my reading queue causes a new entry to be added to a Google Sheets spreadsheet, that would contain episode info including a link to open and play it in Pocketcasts.

The context is, I’m trying to holistically manage media diet across many media and channels, i.e. gather and prioritize and sort (eg to-read/listen, did read/listen). If anyone’s curious, I describe this long-running “personal librarianship” project here: https://www.tmccormick.org/reading. For this purpose, it would be ideal to be able to go further than the above request, and be able to both receive and initiate updates to my Pocket Casts listening queue. If Pocket Casts enabled such API-type services, imo it could become a truly next-level-transformative media curation/use platform.

sorry, meant to add, +1 to the original feature request of making list of starred episodes exportable. This could go a long ways towards what I’m trying to do.

  • @tmccormick sorry for the confusion – I meant the vote has been added to the ideas board

    […]

It might be worth starting a new forum thread for that feature, so that we can see how many other users of our app are interested in such functionality.

+1 for exporting a list of starred episodes.

Reason being, with some podcasts going dark, going service-exclusive, removing feeds, removing older episodes from feeds, or link rot on the audio files themselves, I’m working to save all my favourite (starred) episodes offline for posterity.

Exporting a list of starred episodes, along with at a bare minimum their RSS enclosure URL (and potentially other details) would be fantastic.

Related to this, I’ve noticed that there are discrepancies in showing all starred episodes in the web interface vs the app (I’m on Android).

The app does indeed literally seem to show all starred episodes, going all the way back as far as I can remember starring things, or to older episodes I’ve retroactively starred, all the way into 2010. But the web app doesn’t include starred episodes from certain feeds, and only goes back to 2018.

This is annoying, as the only way I’m able to ‘extract’ a list of starred episodes from the app is either to play each episode one-by-one, and manually ‘share’ the URL to myself in another app (this would be incredibly tedious), or take many, many screenshots all the way down my Starred filter page.

  • @ianolivr great feedback! I have added all of it to our ideas board
