New Pixel Watch media controls?

According to this 9to5Google article https://9to5google.com/2025/04/24/pixel-watch-media-controls-upgrade/ Pocket Casts now has skip back/forward on the Pixel Watch media controls. It even has a screenshot! Unfortunately on my Pixel Watch 3, the controls still show back and forward and are greyed out.
I have the new media controls app on my watch and the overflow with the custom media controls and the Up Next list are there and functional but what I really want are the skip back/forward on the main page. I saw the option for Pixel Watch Skip Buttons under Settings>General>Media Notification Controls but toggling the option seems to do nothing. I currently have that option disabled.
I’ve tried restarting the phone and watch as well as clearing the playback queue and starting with no media active on both devices. Pixel Watch 3/Pixel 9 Pro all on current stable software.
Can anyone help me get the skip controls to show up on my watch?

Actually after another restart on the watch the skip controls did show up and work!
Unfortunately the Up Next button, both on the main screen and in the overflow are greyed out despite having an episode in the queue. (I was wrong before when I said it worked. The three custom actions I selected all do work but the queue was empty and I just assumed it would work too.) Either way my main concern is moot.
