NPR podcasts not playing on tablet

New episodes of various NPR podcasts show up in my feed. However, beginning last week, they no longer play on my tablet. I can listen to the episodes using the web player or on my phone, but I rarely do that because the tablet is more convenient. Any one else having this problem?

- What’s the model and make of the tablet?
- What’s the Pocket Casts app version on the tablet?
- Are you streaming or downloading the podcast?
- Are you using the wifi or cell data?

The tablet is an ONN model 100110027.
Pocket Casts app version is 7.94.
Streaming podcasts.
Using WiFi.
Other podcasts will play just fine on the tablet. NPR podcasts were playing too until last week.

Thank you for providing additional information. I checked on several NPR podcasts and found they are up to date. To help us troubleshoot this further, could you check the Profile > Account to confirm you’re using the same account on all devices. Then, in the tablet, go to Profile > Scroll down and tap on “Refresh Now” to start a new sync.Also, please follow these steps to check your network connection on the tablet.
If you still continue to have issues playing the podcast in the app on the tablet, please let us know and include any error messages you may see. -
I only have one account, but I checked anyway and I’m using the same account everywhere. Refreshing didn’t help. Network connection check got all green check marks.
Uninstalled app, restarted tablet, installed app. Same problem.
Kept trying to play an episode and finally got “Streaming failed try downloading the podcast.” error after waiting a while. Tried downloading an episode and it sits there at 0%.
Other podcasts will still play on the tablet. So far, it is only anything related to NPR that won’t play. New episodes show up in my feed, but they won’t play. Whatever is going on is very strange. It would be easier to figure out what is happening if the episodes wouldn’t play on my phone (which has the same WiFi configuration as my tablet).

@psychofugal Are you maybe running any VPN, ad blocker, or firewall on the tablet that you aren’t running on your phone? This can help us narrow down the cause of the issue.
If you can also share specific episodes from NPR that aren’t playing for you, please share them with us: Sharing Episodes
We can then get one of the source files and have you check if that is also blocked on your tablet.

Not running anything different on the tablet than what I run on the phone. That is, no VPN, ad blockers, firewalls, etc. that aren’t on both devices. I like to keep the portable devices configured as close as possible to each other (makes it easier to switch between them).
I tried playing random episodes from the last year or so from NPR podcasts that I subscribe to and others that I don’t. None of them would play.
However, last night everything started working again. I can’t find anything that changed (other than several apps that updated on the tablet). Just really strange that it was only NPR related episodes failing to play. I guess there could have been others since I’m way behind on some podcasts, but any non-NPR related podcasts that I tried were working.

That’s very odd, and I’m glad to hear that the issue is resolved for the time being.
In the future, it would be best for you to contact us from your mobile immediately after you replicate the issue again. When you do that, you will also be sending your app logs with us. You can reach out through the Pocket Casts app — Profile > Help & Feedback > Get in touch.
It would be helpful if you could note the title of the episode you were listening to and at approximately what time, so we can correlate it with the information from the logs.
