Old episodes reappearing in Up Next
-
I switch to Pocket Casts a few months ago and use the Up Next feature almost exclusively and I’ve noticed that some episodes I’ve already listened to keep reappearing in my Up Next feed.
My Up Next is typically large (~100 episodes) so it’s hard to see what’s happening exactly, but it _feels_ like everything will be going fine, and then suddenly several episodes that I’ve already finished (either by listening all the way through, getting partially through and dragging the playhead to the end, or swiping to remove from Up Next) will be in the Up Next list again.
Often I don’t notice until I get a couple minutes in and realize I’ve heard all of this before.
It _might_ be related to podcasts that I have automatically “Add to Up Next”, as it is often those podcasts, but that might be just because those are the most obvious ones so I notice them.
Anyone else running into this issue?

We’ve encountered similar reports from other users, and it often seems to be related to using Pocket Casts on an Apple Watch.
If you use Pocket Casts on an Apple Watch, please let us know which play source you typically use (Phone or Watch).

Ahhhh, interesting. This could be it.
I do not usually use my Apple Watch for Pocket Casts, but occasionally I will use it to quickly skip an episode or something like that.
When I open the app on my Apple Watch, it often does this strange thing where it looks like it’s “catching up” and will quickly cycle through showing several episodes before landing on the episode that is actively playing.
I feel like that might line up with when the issue is happening because I only do that every other week or so, and the issue.
Usually this is the scenario:
- I start playing a podcast from my iPhone
- Then I open Pocket Casts on my Apple Watch while it’s still playing on my iPhone
- I either a) skip forward/backware in the current episode, b) skip to the next episode, or c) navigate to find another episode and select it

We have an open Github issue about this. We can add your report there if you confirm the following details:
- iPhone model
- Watch model
- iOS version
- watchOS version
- app version
Or you can add a comment on the issue yourself if you prefer.
Could you also try uninstalling the watch app for a while to see if you can confirm that it’s the source of the issue?

Thanks – I added my info to the github issue.
Is there a fix being worked on for this? I’m a little worried that it’s been an issue for over a year and there hasn’t been much or any word on a fix coming.
If removing the Apple Watch app fixes it, that’s great because I was getting ready to just abandon the app—it’s a super annoying bug.
But the Apple Watch is super useful… 😅

@staff-donnie Did this ever get resolved? I’m having this problem now and it’s very frustrating and makes the product unusable.

@beckychr if you’re experiencing this issue still, could you reach out to us through the app to send app logs along? You can do so by navigating to Profile > Help & Feedback > Contact Support > Get Support.
You can tap on “Attached Logs” at the bottom to ensure debug information is included in your message.
Make sure to include a description of the problem before sending your message.

I’m having the same issue. I have an Apple Watch but I don’t use it to interact with Pocket Casts directly. I created a support ticket with uploaded logs.

I am also having this issue and have submitted logs as noted above. To add to the issue, episodes I’ve listened to not only show up in Up Next but they also become unarchived when I go to the podcast’s page. I have removed the episodes from Up Next and archived them multiple times, and everything will seem fine for a while and then I’ll find them back in my Up Next queue. I feel like it’s been about two weeks since the last instance. I haven’t changed any settings or even added any new podcasts during that time.
I have zero podcasts enabled for auto-add to Up Next so even after they are manually dremoved and archived I don’t understand why they keep popping back up in my queue.I also have an Apple Watch but I have never used it to control Pocket Casts.

@pikawu70 since you’ve reached out to us with logs, you can expect a follow-up from us by email soon.
In the meantime, if you’re using the mobile apps, you can try using the Up Next History feature to see if the unexpected changes are listed and available to restore. In some instances Up Next History can help get your Up next queue back to what it was when cases like this occur:
